Coimbatore: The city police detained a 28-year-old guy for smuggling 26 liquor bottles at a van on Friday.
Peelamedu police inspector Vivekanandan and crew ran a Car check Close to the Fun Republic Theater on Avinashi Road in Peelamedu after getting a tip-off.
“The group ended a pickup truck in route from Bengaluru into Coimbatore city.
Though they assessed the vehicle completely, they couldn’t locate anything.
The cops requested van motorist Kalaiyarasan, 28, of Nadukani nearby Gudalur at Nilgiris district, to start the bonnet and discovered 26 liquor bottles concealed there,” a police officer said.
Police seized the car along with the bottles.
Kalaiyarasan told authorities he purchased the spirits from Bengaluru.
“He had been employed as a catalyst at a courier firm and was likely to sell the spirits here in order to make some fast money,” the officer added.
The Peelamedu authorities filed a case against Kalaiyarasan beneath the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937.
He was released on bail.
