Mumbai: Twenty-six people, including 15 minors from St Joseph’s school and orphanages in Agripada in Byculla, have been tested positive for Covid-19.
Officials said four children had been treated at Nair Hospital under child care, while the rest at BMC’s Richardson & Cruddas Covid Covid Center.
All in stable conditions.
Assistant Commissioner City (E Ward) Manish Walunju said on August 23, four people were tested positive at local pharmacies.
“Therefore, we arranged for the camp on August 24, 95 people in place, and 22 were tested positive.
The campus has been sealed and marked as a detention zone,” Walunju said.
BMC seals are premise where more than five positive cases are found for 14 days.
Eleven children aged 12-18 and 11 were staff.
Byculla Corporator Rais Shaikh said generally children from the orphanage did not step out.
“The possibility of infection comes from outside.
BMC must check CCTV recordings and test those who come from outside regularly,” he said.
In Mumbai, some hostels run by Catholic schools have sent children home because of Covid.
Hostel Agripada may have students who are orphans.
About 30 children from home for street children in Mumbai have recently tested positively but they recover within a week.
Limiting several foreign schools, all educational institutions are closed here since locking March 2020.
A state of the GR to reopen the school for class VIII-XII in urban areas Starting August 17 was postponed because the Covid State Task Force opposed it because the third wave would target children child.
