Nagpur: Two-wheeled riders are the most famous for violating traffic rules in the city.
Of the 583 lakh offenders involved in 13 different violations in 2021, the two-wheel driver contributed 3.10 lakh cases.
The four-wheeled driver was involved in 46,157 violations analyzed by the city traffic police.
Traffic police revealed this data to Abhay Kolarkar activists under the RTI query.
Even though the traffic police did not maintain a wise violation of the category, RTI revealed that 2.95,521 two-wheeled riders lacking helmets paid more than RS2.33 Crore was fine.
Similarly, traffic police recovered more than RS15.22 Lakh both from 14,544 two-wheeled riders, while 46,157 four-wheeled drivers pay more than RS69.89 lakh both for driving without a seat belt.
Traffic police ordered 22,158 people for excessive forgiveness and 16,724 for dangerous driving and restored RS49.73 lakh and RS49.62 lakh both from them.
Data also shows regularly autorickshaw on the city road.
As per RTI reply, 26,138 driver autorickshaw was punished for various violations such as driving without meters, uniforms and badges.
Traffic police have also recovered RS31.72 lakh both from tricycle drivers.
Data revealed that actions against traffic violators have improved manifolds in the last three years of the calendar.
In 2019, the traffic police recovered RS8.49 Crore from 4.55,402 offenders.
In 2020, 7.33,234 offenders paid more than RS11.12 Crore as a fine and more than 9.74 lakh offenders pay RS12.56 Crore in 2021.
Despite intensifying actions against heavy vehicles entering the city’s boundaries, the police faced the challenge to curb threat.
In 2019, the traffic police had sentenced 4,799 trucks, 10,951 in 2020 and in 2021, recorded 24,611 Challans.
Kolarkar shows that increasing violations must increase city traffic, but that has not happened.
Citizens must also expand cooperation with traffic police by following all the rules of motorized vehicles.
