PATNA: Chief Union (CM) Nitish Kumar on Tuesday requested the district magistrates (DMs) of West Champaran, East Champaran and Gopalganj districts to stay on top alert and maintain a particular vigil in the aftermath of heavy downpour from the catchment areas of Gandak river from Nepal from the previous 24 hours.
The officers of their water resources section (WRD) and the disaster management division (DMD) have been placed to the alert.
Chairing an overview assembly meeting through videoconferencing, Nitish additionally requested the DMs to notify the households residing in the low-lying regions with all the Gandak river regarding the floodwaters throughout intensive propaganda from loudspeakers, so the activity of evacuation, in case circumstance demands, may be implemented speedily.
The CM requested the WRD officials to depute its engineers all exposed points of this embankments along with Gandak river to make sure its own protection.
Nitish further requested the officers to maintain the NDRF and SDRF teamsdeputed from the districts, even on high alert to ensure rapid action may be obtained in any negative circumstance.

An senior WRD engineer told TOI that a significant portion of Nepal was watching heavy downpour for the past few days due to the premature advent of monsoon there.
