Gurgaon: A duo brother among the three people who were arrested for allegedly deceived a prospective candidate Rs 10 Lakh by promising him a bed in the country team.
The fraud allegedly revealed after Anshul Raj, a 21-year-old starter cricketer, filed a complaint of the police who alleged that he had been cheated by a sports management company in Najafgarh.
The defendant, police said, had floated fake companies – SDMC Cricket Academy – and promised to place Cricketers in the state team with money.
Three people who were arrested were identified as Ashutosh Bora and his sister Chitra, who called themselves the director of the company they served, and Nitin Kumar.
Anshul had told the police that after he enrolled himself at the Academy, he was asked to pay Rs 1 lakh for the bed on the northeastern team.
He made a payment, but no one came for months.
The Board of Directors was then allegedly asked Anshul to pay Rs 9 lakh if he wanted to play for the Himachal team.
Anshul paid money with installments, but the defendant made one reason or another to delay the contract.
After a few weeks, Anshul allegedly submitted a fake document from the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) and was made to believe that he had been chosen for the Naidu trophy match.
When he kept waiting for a call from HPCA, Anshul grew suspicious of the academy motif.
He then approached the Sector 50 police station and filed a complaint against the trio.
While Ashutosh was arrested from Le Meridien hotels in the city, the other two were picked up from their homes.
A police team looking for the Academy Office found false documents and details of 20 more ideals aimed at whom the defendant was believed to have taken money.
The duo’s younger brother has run the academy for several years, police said.
“Ashutosh and Nitin are above the disposal of the temporary woman in the custody of the judiciary,” Rahul Dev, Sho of Sector 50 Police Station.
