Tirunelveli: Three schoolgirls assisted by the government in Tirunelveli died and four others were injured when the school toilet wall crashed into them on Friday, police said.
The incident occurred at around 11 o’clock in the morning during the recess when several students rushed to the 143-year-old Schafffer middle school toilet at S N High Road.
Preliminary questions reveal that the walls, which do not have the foundation, can be weakened by rain recently.
Even when students and teachers tried to save those who were caught under the rubble, K Anbalagan (class IX) from Narasinganallur, T Viswarajan (class VIII) of dirt, and R Sudeesh (class VI) from Pazhavoor died in place.
The bodies were then left to their families after autopsy.
Sanjay Sanjay Students from Thingchanallur, M Isakki Prakash from Tirunelveli City, Siekh Aboobakar Kithani from Vagaalam and Abdullah from Kondanagaram are undergoing treatment at Tirunelveli Medical College and Hospital (TVMCH).
On Friday night, the R P Selvakumar school correspondent, Headmistress B V Persis Gnanaselvi and contractor John Kennedy, who built a wall, was arrested by Tirunelveli Junction police under the part 304 (ii) IPC.

The school will remain closed until December 26.
The V Vishnu district collector visited injured students and asked their health.
