PANAJI: Ananya rises, 12, Shunak Hede, 11, and Self-Sway Kakodkar, 13, made Goa proud when they proceeded to 11th in the world of Robot Olympiad (WRO) Nations India (Junior category).
Calling themselves Roborex Goa, they are the only team of Goa.
It took six months to build robots and wrote more than 5,000 blocks of the code to resolve the problem.
The team admitted that the task was very difficult, but successfully completed it.
WRO is a global robot-based competition that helps young people sharpen their creativity and problem solving skills in a fun and interesting way.
The theme is ‘Park and Charge’ where the team must build and program robots that regulate car parking and bring electric vehicles or hybrid batteries to charge.
Robots must take a vehicle at the parking garage entrance and take them to the right parking lot depending on the type of vehicle and then distribute the battery to charge hybrid and electrical vehicles.
The team was trained by Arya Khedeker, an IT professional based in Ponda, and the mother of one of the participants.
Unlike in metro cities where professional training classes are available, the team manages all activities to build and program their own robots.
The team has won a number of other competitions, including individual teams and awards in the Mania Hygiene coding contest held by FIC (future innovators of the robotics competition) and have participated in the Quark, a program organized by Bits Pilani, Goa.
