NAVI MUMBAI: Crime branch arrested three men, who fled to Uttar Pradesh, after assaulting and robbing a senior citizen in New Panvel area.
Police said one Trambak Dahatonde was assaulted and robbed of his 40 gram gold chain worth Rs 1.20 lakh and Rs 45,000 cash around 12.10 am on May 20 while he was at his house.
The cops have seized the autorickshaw used in the robbery and recovered the valuables and cash collectively worth Rs 2.56 lakh.
Senior inspector Giridhar Gore said, “The victim informed us that the trio escaped in an autorickshaw, we traced the vehicle in Kamothe and got the name of the driver and his aides.
We received a tip that they had escaped to Uttar Pradesh.
After tracking their mobile tower location and from the CCTV footage of Mumbai railway station, we zeroed-in on Patliputra Express and Varanasi Express trains in which they were travelling towards Uttar Pradesh.
We sought help from the GRP for detaining them at Satna, Prayagraj or Varanasi railway station.
But the robbers were not found in the trains as they had probably alighted at some previous railway station.” Gore said, “A crime branch team went to UP while another team kept tracking their location and communicated with the crime branch sleuths that had camped in UP for two days.
When the mobile tower location of the robbers was found at a fixed location in Chowri village of Bhadoi district, we took help of local police and village chief and apprehended the robbers.” The arrested have been identified as Roshan Kumar Nat (21) working as a welder and residing in Adai village, Sahamat Ansari (23), the auto rickshaw driver residing in Kamothe and Shahnawaz Shaikh (35), a driver residing in Asudgaon.
“The victim’s gold chain has been recovered after Ansari revealed in police custody that he had kept it with her sister in Kamothe.
However, Rs 45,000 cash robbed from the victim has not been recovered.
Hence, we have obtained extension of their police custody,” Gore said.
