Gurgaon: Health Department officials carry out attacks in private laboratories in sector 63 and found it to carry out non-invasive prenatal testing (nipt) without permission needed.
This test, officials said, can be used to determine the gender of the fetus through further genetic testing.
While NIP is legal in India, this test is allowed to only be used to detect genetic abnormalities in embryos, such as cystic fibrosis, thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, phenylketonuria, among others.
This test analyzes small DNA fragments circulating in the blood of pregnant women.
“Pregnant women’s blood samples are taken to do nipt on Labs.
This procedure can only be done at a registered genetic clinic and by people who meet the requirements and are registered based on pre-conception and Prenatal Act & Rules diagnostic techniques 1994/1996 (PCPNDT Actes / Rules ).
However, this collection center in a private lab is not listed under ACT / Rules of PCPNDT.
The sample was taken by people who did not qualify in the laboratory in severe violations part 3 of the PNDT law, “said Dr.
Virender Yadav, Chief Medical Officer, Gurgaon.
RAID was carried out by the Ministry of Health at a tip-off that the center did not maintain mandatory records of pregnant women and labs have not taken mandatory approval for pregnant women before conducting genetic studies.
Following this tip-off, the Ministry of Health’s team sent a pregnant woman to the lab for Nipt.
Bait blood samples were taken in the lab and sent to two labs in sector 14 and in Rohini Delhi to be processed.
The team observed that the laboratory, which processed the sample did not follow the protocol for sample collection, testing procedures and mandatory documentation as required in the PNDT Act.
The team found that the laboratory was used to strengthen Rs 15,000 to RS 25,000 per test.
A case was submitted at the Sector Police Station 65 on Saturday against three laboratories below 3, 4, 5, 29 read with rules 9, 10, 14, 18 PCPNDT Act / rules can be punished under section 23 and below 34, 120 b , 420 and 406 IPC.
