The third day of the third day between Britain and Pakistan in Edgbaston next month will be permitted to have 19,000 spectators, said organizers.
The nighttime contest, scheduled for July 13, has been allowed to host a crowd of 80% capacity without social distance requirements after being confirmed as one of the government pilot events to enable a larger crowd.
Earlier this month, Edgbaston held a trial with a capacity of 70% for the second test of England against New Zealand, accommodating around 60,000 spectators in four days.
“It’s fantastic for sports in West Midlands which so many cricket fans will be able to enjoy other blockbuster equipment in England versus Pakistan in Edgbaston,” Stuart Cain, chief executive at Edgbaston, said in a statement on Monday.
“The test match recently gave us a fantastic opportunity to build a new model for large-scale sports events and I was happy to see elements from this first trial which was brought forward to the Pakistani match.” All viewers aged 11 or more will be asked to show the results of the negative Lateral Covid-19 flow test or the proof of the second vaccine dose of at least two weeks before the match.
