Pune: Three Vaccines against Covid-19 – Covovax, Corbevax and Zycov-D – who received drug controllers General Not of India last year for emergency use in this country have not been used in immunization drives, raising questions about the delay in their utilization.
While Zycov-D Zydus Cadila was given an emergency use authorization on August 20 years, authorization was given to Serum Institute’s Covovax on December 28 and to Biologocal E’s Corbevax on December 29.
Experts claim that this is the right time to accelerate the vaccine launch approved because the government has begun teenage vaccination and prudential doses are being given to vulnerable populations and frontline workers.
Leading public health experts despite saying three vaccine producers must ensure sufficient inventory before the launch was announced.
At present, only covaxin is given to children, while all three vaccines are launched last year -Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V – are being used as a dose of prevention.
Experts feel that the launch of Covovax, Corbevax and Zycov-D will strengthen the Indian vaccine basket against Covid-19.
Officials from the Ministry of Health Union acknowledged that the company’s production capacity was a problem in introducing these three vaccines in the current program.
He said with most vaccinated populations with covishield and covaxin, the focus of the new vaccine would be in areas that were less vaccinated, especially in the northeastern state.
A senior official from the Ministry of Health Union said they had ordered new vaccines for countries and regions with poor vaccination.
“We must begin to get supply at least Zycovd in about a month.
The other two must also be included immediately,” the official said.
Maharashtra has ordered nearly 14 doses of lakh for the area with poor dose vaccination.
“We have received sanctions in November, but we have not received a vaccine,” said a senior state public health official.
A senior member of the National Technical Advisory Group on immunization in India (Ntagi) told TOI that at this time, the total number of Zycov-D doses was limited to only one crore.
