Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Friday announced the appointment of three state information commissioners (SIC).
Retired bureaucrat Suresh Chandra Gairola, Samir Sahay and Rahul Bhalchandra Pandey was appointed to the post.
Activists said that it took almost two years for the state government to fill this post and in the meantime, the Post Amravati Sic also fell empty.
“There are more than 60,000 second appeals waiting for hearing.
The action continues to remain on paper with an empty post not immediately filled,” said the right to information (RTI) Anil Galgali.
According to the government, Chairman of the Minister of UDDHAV Thackeray approved the names a few days ago, posted what was approved by the Governor and an order issued yesterday.
When hearing the pill filed by former Chief Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi and several RTI activists, the Bombay High Court in August has directed the state government to provide a road map to fill the State Information Commission (SIC) Information Commissioner along with other top posts in a month .
On September 2020, the court has asked the state to fill three empty posts for the information commissioner in Pune, Nagpur and Nashik earlier.
