Ghaziabad: Police in Ghaziabad arrested three people on Sundays for allegedly deceiving people using the ATM card skimmer.
The defendant has been identified as Krishna Mandal, a resident of Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, Sandeep Singh and Nazeem Saifi, both the noida resident.
While Mandal has an MBA, Sandeep is a graduate.
The police said that the gang would offer to help people who were easily fooled by ATM transactions.
As soon as a victim surrendered the card to swipe, the defendant would copy the data using a portable skimmer.
They will then ask the victim to make a transaction, where they will copy the PIN number.
“Through the details obtained, the defendant will make a duplicate ATM card and withdraw money,” police said.
Indirapuram police have received four cases of ATM fraud recently.
Abhay Mishra, the circle of the Indirapuram police station, said that the skimming device installed by the defendant at the ATM would allow them to read the card details.
“The defendant will target an ATM without a security guard.
They will install a small camera near the pin where the pin is included,” Mishra said.
One device can record details at least 25 ATM cards.
The defendant will access details and then reproduce other cards with the help of several other accused.
The police have recovered 65 duplicate ATM cards, 30 other ATM cards from different banks, one skimmer machine, one laptop, car and two countries made a gun.
During the interrogation, the defendant had told the police that they were in business for the past four years and they had delayed at least 1,100 people during this period.
The police investigation also revealed that the gang members handed hand in hand with some restaurant and bar employees where ordinary people made card payments.
All defendants were ordered based on Section 420 (cheating), 470 (falsified) and 471 (using as original A forged 1 [Document or Electronic Record]) from the IPC.
All defendants were sent to detention after producing it in the District Court.
