Kolhapur: The Department of Forest Ratnagiri and the branch of the local crime has arrested three people suspected of trying to exchange Walrus Tusk in Hatkhamba in Ratnagiri District.
The Ministry of Forestry has confiscated Walrus Tusk Walrus is a large marine mammal which is only found in the North Pole region.
Priyanka Lagad, Range Forest Officer of Ratnagiri, said they have received information about the possibility of illegal trade in marine animals from the source.
“We put the trap with the help of the local police and arrested three people.
Two Walrus Tusks was confiscated from the suspect.
They have been charged under the Law of Wildlife (Protection), 1972,” he told Ti.
The suspect who was arrested was identified as Hemanth Suresh Kandar (38), a Kankavli resident at Sindhudurg, Rajan Dayal Panger (58), a Malwan resident in Sindhudurg and, Muhammad Numan Yasin rose (41), a citizen of North Goa.
They were arrested on August 31, at 9pm from Hatkhamba Village in Ratnagiri District on the National Highway Mumbai-Goa.
The action was taken under Clement Ben’s Kolhapur (Territorial) forest conservator, police supervisor Ratnagiri Mohit Kumar Garg, District Forest Officer Deepak Khade, assistant to forest conservator Ratnagiri Sachin Nilakh and Kumar Shah Police Inspector.
