Bhubaneswar: A three-year-old girl in Block Dharakote District Ganjam died in the collapse of the wall as a severe heavy rainfall continued to hit the state for the third consecutive day on Tuesday.
The bathroom affects more than 20 lakh people, leading to derailing train goods and flooding several low regions throughout the state.
Apart from misery, the government authorities said there was no fear of large flooding as far as most rivers flowed below the danger level.
The IMD estimates that rainfall will subside from Wednesday because of severe depression which causes heavy rain has weakened to depression and moved from Odisha towards Chhattisgarh.
The death of the girl raised the victim regarding the fourth flood.
Others missing in the Nischintakoili block of the Cuttack district and allegedly sank, a situation report issued by the government stated.
The state has evacuated more than 13,000 people, including the highest 5000 of the cuttack, because rainwater enters low-lying houses mostly in Puri, Ballasore, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sonepur and Bhadrak.
More than 2,800 homes in 18 districts were damaged, said government reports.
In the last 48 hours, Odisha received an average of 135.6 mm of rain, which is 60% of normal rainfall estimated throughout September.
The state has received more than 250 mm of rain in the past two weeks.
H R Biswas, Director of IMD’s Bhubaneswar Center said, “The intensity of rain on Tuesday is less than Monday while it will be far less in all states from Wednesday.” Pradeep Kumar Special Assistance Commissioner Jena said the government had maintained a close watch on the Baitarani River, which flowed above the danger level in Akhuapeada in Bhadrak Regency, and the Jalaka River in Mathani in Balasore.
“This might not be great concern because the rain in the catch is much smaller than anticipated.
All other rivers flow below the danger level,” Jena said.
