Gurgaon: A special vaccination session site for thalassemia patients was organised at Rotary Blood Bank in Sector 10A on Wednesday where 30 recipients in the age group of 18-44 years took the jab.
Bhavika (20), a resident of Sector 4, was diagnosed with thalassemia, a blood disorder which requires regular blood transfusion, when she was three months old.
“Earlier, I used to go to Delhi for my treatment.
For the last two years, I have been visiting the Rotary Blood Bank in Gurgaon for transfusion every month,” Bhavika said.
Sharing similar sentiments, Dolly (24), said, “I suffer from continuous stress because of the disorder.
Weakness, back pain and low energy are some of the constant features of this disorder.
I have to visit the blood bank every three weeks for a transfusion.
During the pandemic, this was a big concern for everyone in my family.” Dr MP Jain, member of IMA, said, “We have a list of 100 thalassemia patients in the city and around 39 are in the 18-44 age group.
We have asked these patients to visit blood banks with their parents and siblings.”
