Gurgaon: Around 300 patients have visited Covid-19 out-patient departments (OPDs) after they reopened in Gurgaon three days ago.
Most patients have come in with complaints of breathing problems, muscle pain, headache, pain in eyes and fatigue.
At present, 21 private hospitals in the city, along with Civil hospital, have dedicated OPDs for recovered Covid patients.
“We are getting many patients with post-Covid complications and have instructed all hospitals to set up a dedicated Covid OPD where patients who have recovered from can come for check-ups.
Anxiety, low immunity, prevalence of cough and muscle pain are some of the common complaints,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer, Gurgaon.
“There are patients who were severely infected by the virus, leading to multiple organ damage and lung-related issues, acute coronary syndrome and neurological and kidney disorders.
Many such patients with impaired lung capacity still need oxygen support or specialised care even after recovery from Covid,” said Dr Satish Koul, director and head of the department of internal medicine, Narayana Hospital.
He added, “Treatment-related complications can appear in patients who had to be given steroids and blood thinners, which may result in uncontrolled blood sugar levels, bleeding disorders and compromised immunity.
Secondary infections are also a part of this.
” Experts said many other Covid patients are visiting OPDs with cardiac, respiratory, psychological and physiotherapy problems after recovery.
“Other than these cardiac and psychological issues, we are also witnessing patients with infectious diseases like influenza and fungal infections,” said Dr Rahul Bhargava, principal director (hematology), Fortis Memorial Research Institute.
“We see around 10 cases every day of post-Covid lung disease.
Symptoms are persistent cough, breathlessness, lack of strength and poor appetite.
Low oxygen levels with breathlessness is the major complication,” said Dr Arunesh Kumar, pulmonologist and head of the department at Paras Chest Institute, Paras Hospital.
