Mumbai: In one of the main narcotics seizures in the last 10 years, the Directorate of Income Intelligence (DRI) seized 293 kg Heroin worth RS 879 Crore smuggled from Afghanistan through Iran on Thursday, identified as Prabhjot Singh, identified, said source.
Heroin is the most commonly traded substance in India, followed by marijuana and cocaine.
The opportunity was declared as a gypsum stone and powder tale and carried through JNPT when the official intercepted.
The import export code (IEC) is on behalf of Singh and the consignment is intended for Punjab.
Singh has imported gypsum stones and powder talculating through JNPT for the past year, said the source.
“The consignment has arrived from Afghanistan through Iran that raised suspicion that it might contain some prohibited items.
During a physical examination, we found it narcotics MIS – was declared a gypsum,” said an official.
“The test using the NDPS kit confirmed it was heroin,” said an official.
Consignment is confiscated in the provisions of drug narcotics and laws of psychotropic substances (NDPS).
Last year, DRI had confiscated 191 kg of heroin which was mistakenly stated as Mulethi, Ayurvedic herb.
The Punjab police special assignment unit has also won the 194kg heroin and other contraband goods from the rented house in the Amritsar district and arrested six people, including a Afghan woman and a woman.
