Bhubaneswar: Pipe water for all in rural areas in 2024 looks like a distant dream.
Of the 85.67 households in the villages, a total of 26.49 lakh (31%) had pipe water now.
It took 22 months, from August 15, 2019 to June 15, 2019, to provide a pipe supply to 23.38 lakh houses, a written reply by Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat with Lok Sabha.
With an average of a little more than one lakh household per month, the government will need more than 55 months to break 59.18 lakh.
According to Reply Minister for the question by MP Basanta Kumar Panda, on August 15, 2019, during the launch of Jal Jeevan’s mission, from 85.67 Lakh rural households in Odisha, 3.11 lakh (3.74%) had distributed water connections.
In the last 22 months, 23.38 lakh households have provided tap water connections, increasing coverage to 26.49 lakh households (30.93%).
Apart from the mission of Jeevan Center, Odisha has a scheme such as Buxi Jagabandhu’s water supply guaranteed to residence (Basudha), in 2017-2018.
The state has set a target to provide pipe water supply to all houses in 2024.
