New Delhi: The cabinet on Wednesday approved the construction of 32,152 km in the tribal and backward areas, including those affected by the left wing extremism, at a cost of Rs 33,822 Crore, Information and Broadcasting Minister of Anurag Thakur.
These roads will be completed under the first two phases of Pradhan Gram Gram Sadak Yojana.
Thakur said from RS 33,822 Crore needed for road projects, the central government share was Rs 22,978 Crore.
The rest will be borne by the state government, he added.
The government said the Cabinet gave approval to continue phase-I and II to September, 2022 to complete the work of balance and bridges and the continuation of road connectivity projects for the affected regions of LWE until March, 2023.
The government has launched PMGSY – me in 2000 for Connectivity to Habuni places that are not connected and have gave sanctions nearly 6.5 lakh km long roads and 7,523 bridges.
Until now, work has not been completed for 20,950 km and 1,974 bridges.
The continuation of this scheme will now help complete the remaining work.
According to official release, under PMGSY-II, an increase in rustic road network 50,000 km was approved in 2013.
