Bengaluru: Sixteen members of the men’s senior hockey team are among 33 Covid-19 cases detected on Friday at the Indian National Excellence Sports Authority.
Positive cases came after 128 tests were carried out at the high profile center, the Indian Sports Authority (SAI) said.
The majority of them did not show symptoms and they were all isolated, Sai said but did not divulge their infected identity.
“16 athletes and one coach of the senior men’s hockey team, training at the center in front of the Pro Fih League that will come in South Africa, has been tested positively.
They are all without symptoms,” Sai said.
Among the training of Junior Women’s Hockey girls for the World Cup in April, 15 has been tested positively.
From positive cases, three asymptomatics while 12 are symptoms.
One of the senior women’s hockey team players, who are symptomatic, and a masseuse of the athletic team has also been tested positively.
Sai said it would take all the necessary steps to treat the players separately and help them recover firmly.
Previously, more than 25 Covid cases were reported at Sai’s Patiala Training Center with boxers to be the worst hit.
The National Sports Institute of Patiala is a Boxers training base, Weightlifters and Track and Field Athletes among others.
