New Delhi: At least 348 people died in police custody in various parts of the country in the last three years, Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
The Union State Minister for Nityanand Rai’s house said that based on information received from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), 136 people died in police custody in 2018, 112 in 2019 and 100 in 2020 were found 1,189 found tortured in police custody.
Rai responded to the question by Congress leader P Chidambaram about whether there had been a sharp increase in the incidence of custodian deaths and torture in police custody in the country.
