Islamabad: At least 35 worshipers were killed and more than 70 others were injured after three suicide bombers detonated their explosives in the mosque during the weekly Friday church prayer in the Kandahar city environment in Afghanistan.
The incident took place a week after dozens of people were killed in a bloody attack on the Shiite Mosque during the church prayer in Kunduz northern province.
The previous attack was claimed by the Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISUKP), regional affiliates of Iraq and Syria Islamic State (ISIS).
Locals said that three explosions occurred, one by one, at the Fatima Bibi Mosque in the heart of Kandahar.
Two similar terrorist attacks on the minority community within seven days during the busiest church prayer this week showed that the security threat from terror clothing in a battered country fought was the biggest challenge for the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
By sending three suicide bombers with a non-strategic target, non-combatant in Kandahar, Afghan analyst Abdul Haq Omari said, all regional forces must be worried about the depth and trust of terrorist groups in their recruitment efforts.
These attacks also damaged the myth of the Taliban security card played by the group by claiming that they were the only ones who could ensure security for the country.
The attack in Kandahar, Afghan’s second largest city with a population of six million and was considered a Taliban camp and a spiritual birthplace of the group movement, seemed to have sent a message that there was no safe place in a war-hit country.
Try to Twitter, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid condemned the attack and wrote: “The Emirates of Islam condemned the barbaric attack on civilians in a mosque in Kandahar.
We have directed security forces to find serious crimes as they are as soon as possible and bring them to court.
“He extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
State Ministry spokesman Syed Khosti said the explosion occurred at the Shiite Mosque of the Brotherhood in the Police District (PD-1) from the city of Kandahar.
“The special forces of the Islamic Emirates have arrived in the area to determine the nature of the incident and bring the perpetrators to the court,” Khosti added.
He appealed to people to donate blood to help the victims.
Videos and photos posted on social media showed dozens of bodies lay on a prayer mat that was soaked in the blood in the mosque’s prayer hall, while volunteers tried to save injured.
While there are no groups that accept responsibility for the latest attacks, he bears the fingerprint ISUKP, which has so far targeted Afghan security forces, politicians and former government officials, Taliban, religious minorities including Shiite Muslims and Sikh, US and NATO forces, and institutions International, including assistance organizations.
ISUKP is a Sunni Muslim group and has been considered the most extreme and hard of all terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan.
