Hyderabad: By approaching 60 deaths, Nehru Outer Ring Road saw a spike of 35% in a fatal road accident this year compared to 2020, according to the latest data released by Rachakonda and police commissioner Cyberabad.
On Cyberabad, 39 people have died in 33 accidents while in the limit of Rachakonda, a total of 19 people were killed in 41 accidents.
Although the eight-lane ring road is designed for speeds of up to 100 kmph, the lack of lighting and driving rash produces several fatal accidents.
Officials explained that the majority of accidents occurred because drivers lacked sleep.
A case of In-Point will experience an accident on ORR where two people died in place and four others suffered injuries after their sedan hit a truck.
The police identified that everyone was drunk after attending a birthday party.
The driver was sleepy because he lacked sleep.
Police Commissioner Rachakonda Mahesh Bhagwat explained that there were not many increased accidents throughout the Order within their coming limits.
Of the 41 accidents across the Rachakonda area, 13 of them were fatal and 28 of them were not fatal with 50 suffering injuries.
“We have introduced marshal traffic where some IT employees are registered as traffic volunteers available for human traffic in several regions.
Overall, 106 Marshal traffic is registered and they help respond to accidents and some life has been saved this way,” said Bhagwat.
Overall, road accidents did see an increase of 2021 by 10% compared to 2020.
A total of 618 deaths were reported in the Rachakonda area and 2,492 people were injured.
In Cyberabad, the accident saw an increase of 18% this year compared to 2020.
On the good side, the number of deaths decreased by marginal 3 percent.
Of the 784 deaths, the majority of 484 of them happened to be two-wheeled and pillion riders.
