New Delhi: More than a third of 9,000 Air Indian employees have so far been infected with Covid-19 and 56 of them have lost their lives.
“A total of 3,523 Indian water employees have been influenced by Covid-19.
Out of (they), 56 employees surrendered to this pandemic until July 14, 2021,” Union Minister for VK Singh’s civil flight in a written reply on the question at Lok Sabha on Thursday , Air India has more than 9,000 employees last March.
The airline has been at the forefront of operating from a flight forward to bring home Indians abroad during a pandemic, a process that began in January when flying two jumbo jets from Delhi to Wuhan back, from there.
General (pensioners) Singh said AI had taken various steps to maintain the interests of employees affected by Covid and their families.
He said that Air India paid compensation for Rs 10 lakh to the families of each permanent employee who died of Covid-19.
When a contract employment futures still died because Covid-19, AI paid his family as compensation for Rs 5 lakh, he added.
Covid-19 infected employees were given a paid quarantine leave of 17 days, he said.
“The replacement of vaccination costs is provided for employees and their families if they are paid by them,” he said.
