Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 3,549 cases have been registered under the protection of children from the sexual law, 2012, (Act Pocso) in the state of January 1 last year.
This number marks a significant increase compared to the previous year, when only 3,019 cases are registered.
From 2021 points, the highest number of cases registered in Malappuram (457), followed by Thiruvananthapuram Rural (318) and Palakkad (251).
A small number of cases registered in Kannur City (93), Kannur Rural (97) and Ernakulam City (110), in accordance with State Police Statistics.
Over the years, there is a significant increase in the number of cases registered under Pocso Law in the state, since 2016.
While in 2016, the number was 2,122, an increase to 2,697 in 2018 and 3,180 in 2018 and 3,680 in 2018 and 3,680 3,609 in 2019.
In 2020, it was apparently because of the locking related to Covid-19, the number fell to 3.019.
But in 2021, the number again registered a significant increase.
In this background that the cabinet on Wednesday decided to establish 28 special treek special trees to handle cases under ACT, taking the total number of these courts in the 56th state.
In accordance with the data delivered in assembly, until October last year, There were 10,187 cases listed under the delayed actions in the state to be tried.
Of the total number of cases delayed, the highest number is in the Thiruvananthapuram district (1,714 cases), followed by Malappuram (1,310) and thrissur (1,196).
Delayed cases in other districts are as follows: Kollam (710), Pathanamthitta (351), Alappuzha (532), Kottayam (479), Idukki (573), Ernakulam (711), Palakkad (608), Kozhikode (608 ), Wayanad (284), Kannur (841) and Kasaragod (483).
Some of them are associated with reasons such as delays to receive forensic reports from laboratories.
A committee appointed by the High Court to monitor the progress of the trial based on Pocso law in 2019 found that there were more than 1,300 cases when submitting reports trapped in various districts because of the delay in receiving reports forensic analysis.
Of these, 757 cases wait more than a year.
At present, forensic laboratories in the state at the police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram and regional forensic science laboratories in Thrissur, Kannur, Ernakulam and Kollam.
Also, there are 19 Mobile Forensic Labs (DMFL) in all police districts.
The government is now in the process of establishing a forensic laboratory in all 14 income districts in the state.
The leadership of the police had sent a circular to discuss all district police chiefs that the field unit did not show expertise in the investigation of Pocso cases, trials and confidence despite releasing several communics against the investigation of these cases.
