359 senior citizens were arrested for various violations

Coimbatore: At least 359 senior citizens were arrested in the city for various violations last year, in accordance with the data available with the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB).
Although there was no data for a comparable period in 2019 to see the trend, Chennai had occupied 18 other metropolitan cities by capturing 25,157 senior citizens in 2020.
Most senior citizens (aged 60 years and above) were involved in cases of attack so far dispute.

In accordance with NCRB data, 339 men and 20 women aged 60 years and over were arrested in Coimbatore City last year, compared with 23,567 men and 1,590 women in the same age group in the city of Chennai.
Coimbatore City Police have also arrested 32 teenagers (those under the age of 18) last year for their role in various violations, especially theft cases.
At Chennai City, 792 teenagers were arrested.
