Madurai: A total of 569 new Covid-19 cases were added in Madurai on Sunday because the number of active cases rose to 3,696.
There was an increase in the number of patients recovering because it rose slightly to 338 of 321 on Saturday.
The death of Lone Covid-19 recorded in Madurai is a 93-year-old man with chronic kidney disease.
Recognized to a private hospital here on January 10, he tested positive the next day and died on Saturday night.
This took the total Covid-19 deaths in this district as far as 1,193.
Trichy also recorded a minor increase in new cases as a district posted 453 against 443 on Saturday.
Active cases in the district cross 3,000 and now stand at 3,150.
One death was reported from the district including 271 recovery.
Among the Central District, Thanjavur (439) reported the second highest number of cases and now has 2,072 active cases.
Nine central districts now have 8,110 active cases because 1,395 new cases are added on Sundays.
One death was also reported from Karur.
A total of 2,647 new cases were added in ten South Tamil Nadu districts on Sunday with Kanyakumari (678) recorded the highest.
It was attended by Madurai (569), Tirunelveli (256), Virudhunagar (254), Tuticorin (238), Tenkasi (194), Theni (176), Ramanathapuram (113), Sivagagai (75).
The number of recovery in the southern region rose slightly to 1,209.
Three deaths recorded in this region on Sundays, including each in Madurai, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin.
All deceased aged more than 70 years and have a commorbid condition.

In Tuticorin, a 85-year-old man who was tested positive on January 12 and died after four days of inpatient on Sunday.
According to the State Health Department Bulletin on Sunday the level of participants for cases recorded in the southern region on Saturday are as follows: Kanyakumari (17.7), Ramanathapuram (15.3), Theni (13.8), Virudhunagar (12.9), Tuticorin (12.1), Tirunelveli (10.4), Madurai (8), Dindigul (4.3) and Tenkasi (2.3).
