New Delhi: In a step that can reduce the price of some of the many used essential drugs, the government has revised the national list of essential drugs, adding 39 new ones in the list for the proposed price close, said source.
Those who have been added to the list include drugs to fight cancer, diabetes, tuberculosis and HIV regardless of several antiviruses.
The government has also removed 16 drugs from the existing list and the final Nlem 2021 now contains 399 important drugs, up from 376 drugs currently under direct price control.
The revised list, prepared by the Expert Committee under the Indian Medical Research Council, was submitted to the Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday.
After the list is notified by the Ministry of Health, it will be evaluated by the permanent Committee on drugs and affordable health products (Scamhp) to assess which drugs need a price capping.
Limitation of the final price will be carried out by the National Pharmaceutical Determination Authority based on the Recommendation of Scamhp, led by Niti Aayog Member-Health Dr.
