Jaipur: The Wildlife Safari at the Jhalana Reserve Forest which began two years ago has placed leopard sightings in the city at the international circuit of wildlife lovers.
Reserve witnessed a surge in tourist feet even during the pandemic period.
Located in the heart of the city, Jhalana is said to be the best site for the sightings of leopards and attract people from every level of society, including celebrities, bureaucrats and judges.
Head of Secretary Niranjan Arya visited popular backup on Tuesday.
Tourists rushed during work from home and continued since then and more than 100 people (maximum capacity) have used safari facilities every day.
In accordance with the number of forestry departments, in July 2021, the reserve witnessed 3,284 tourists, the highest since the park was opened for tourists.
Forests spread more than 20 SQKM in the southeast of Jaipur.
It accommodates a healthy population of 41 leopards seen by tourists only from 10-20 feet.
Ranger Forest Janeshwar Chaudhary said, “There are 41 leopards in the park including 31 adults and 10 children.
Apart from the leopards, this park has various attractions such as 132 species avifauna, 220 species of Flora, 20 species of reptiles to mention a few.” An official Said in an effort to improve leopard conservation in the state, the Ministry of Forestry has also installed a camera trap in the Jhalana and Amagarh forest reserves to assess their population.
“Taking a signal from the Tiger Project which was launched by the Center in 1973, the state has launched a project to preserve the leopard, which number has allocated Rs 7 Crore for leopard project in the 2017-18 budget,” said a forest official.
