Nagpur: against the background of recent violent incidents in Amravati and other cities in Maharashtra, the State Police Headquarters has trapped four officials of the senior additional director (ADG) for sensitive police and the city to ensure that there is no flare-up, A senior official said on Sunday.
In the police department, the police range is usually led by a police officer Inspector (IGP) officer.
ADG is a senior rank to the IGP, the official explained.
He told PTI that the decision to stop the four senior adg in various police ranges was taken by the Director General of Maharashtra Police (DGP) Sanjay Pandey after a meeting between top police officers and the Interior Minister Dilip Walse Patil.
Top Police Brass believes that the Adg-rank officers will use their expertise in maintaining effectively maintaining communal harmony in sensitive areas, said sources.
On Saturday, the curfew was clamped in the city of Amravati in Maharashtra Timur for four days and internet services were closed after a horde that threw stones in the shops during the bandh (shut-down) which was allegedly held by local BJP workers by protest against demonstrations organized by demonstrations.
