Surat: Healthy Cyberrime arrested four people from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi because of their alleged involvement in online fraud in which the defendant beat a 66-year-old retired bank employee Rs 42.81 lakh.
The defendant was tracked through their bank account transactions five months after they committed a crime.
The police were arrested by Abdul Mannan Khan (30), Umar Salim Miya (27), Aqib Ansar Khan, (37) and Irfan Ahmad (27), all native to Badun above.
Miya and Ahmad were arrested from Delhi.
Police recovered RS 12.25 lakh cash from the defendant.
The defendant first contacted the victim in October 2017 and managed to convince him to buy an insurance policy worth Rs 48.35 lakh.
The victim deposited Rs 1.81 lakh in a bank account.
The defendant again contacted the victim in December 2020 and offered to get the maturity amount paid before the policy period ended.
The victim agreed after being accused of asking him to deposit money, as payment for various costs, in various accounts.
“The victim paid total Rs 42.81 lakh in various transactions in three months,” police said.
When the victim did not receive money despite paying a large number he realized that he was cheated.
