Greater Noida: Four people died and around 20 were injured in two separate accidents on the freeway in Greater Noida on Sunday.
One accident took place on the freeway Yamuna, where four people got out of their car when the tires were pierced and hit by a vehicle coming from behind.
Three of them died, while a 55-year-old woman – a sub-inspector at Delhi police – was struggling for life.
Another accident occurred on the East Peripheral freeway during hours, when a bus crowded crashed into a stationary truck.
A woman in her thirties died.
Around 12:30 a.m., a Honda city carrying four people from Mathura had to stop on the side of the Yamuna toll road when one of the tires was punctured near Salalpur trail in Dankaur.
While one of them was busy fixing the tire, the other came out to help him.
A vehicle coming from behind failed to slam the brakes in time and hit Honda and the people around him.
A police team rushed to a place after getting a call from the pedestrian and bringing fourth to Kailash Hospital.
Three declared dead on the fourth arrival, sub-inspectors, were undergoing treatment.
The four are interrelated with each other and towards Delhi.
Three who died were identified as Bhaskar Sharma (25), his mother Kanchan Sharma (62) and Bhavya Sharma (19), Kanchan’s nephew.
Poonam Sharma (55), Kanchan’s younger sister, was treated for a critical injury of his head.
Arvind Pathak, Sho of Dankaur Police Station, said they were trying to identify vehicles and drivers from CCTV footage.
“It is not clear whether it is a heavy car or vehicle.
We have registered a case against unknown people underneath, 304a (death due to negligence) and 279 (Rues Driving) from IPC.
We scan CCTV recording,” he added.
In another accident, a private bus carrying 70 passengers to Bihar from Punjab crashed into a stationary truck in EPE in Dadri around 5 in the morning.
The truck driver has parked his vehicle on the side of the toll road to sleep quickly.
He, however, escaped from the place after the accident.
While a woman, around 35 years old, died, 19 other people on the bus injured and taken to a private hospital.
Nine was released after the first aid, while the top 10 were referred to the district hospital because they suffered injuries in their heads.
They tend to be repatriated on Monday.
Pradeep Tripathi, Dadri police station, said the accident occurred around 5 in the morning.
“The woman who died traveled alone.
The police have examined their luggage but did not find documents or identity cards.
We also did not know whether she took the phone,” he added.
Most passengers on the bus fell asleep when crashing into a truck.
“I gasped from sleeping with a jerk.
My head had hit the back of the front seat and my legs were also jammed between the chairs.
It took almost an hour for the police to take us out,” Tripathi said.
Sho shows that most accidents on the freeway take place between 2am and 5 in the morning, when the driver faces the risk of sleeping.
“The bus driver remains lack of sleep.
The bus is also crowded outside his capacity.
The driver might fall asleep for a few seconds and the bus hit a truck,” Tripathi said.
