Ahmedabad: almost four months after the first complaint under the ‘Love Jihad’ law that was just applied at the Gotri Police Station in Vadodara, the four people were accused of – the victim’s husband, the priest who made a wedding and two people who stood testified to the marriage – given guarantees by the Gujarat High Court on Wednesday.
During the hearing on Tuesday, justice I J Vora said he was thinking of guarantees to her husband who was accused of Sameer Qureshi, Pastor Islamuddin Shaikh and two witnesses for marriage, Naushad Shaikh and Irshad Shaikh.
The judge commented that the scholars and two witnesses looked innocent in this matter, but were behind bars.
On Wednesday, the judge provided guarantees to each of them.
The defendant’s lawyer said they would be released after a copy of the court order was available.
FIR was submitted on June 17, two days after the Gujarat Assembly changed the laws of religious freedom and included a part that made religious conversion with the interfaith marriage that could not be punished.
The first victim leveled allegations of forced conversion and then continued on charges of rape, sodomy, and cruelty of caste.
There were eight people accused of this, including seven were arrested.
The court has guaranteed parents and sisters of the husband.
The seventh allegations and victims themselves transferred the High Court in August who were looking for arrangement of charges and requesting guarantees too.
The victim accused that the police official “was too excited” and incorporated violations that could be punished under the anti-conversion law into his complaint.
The police, on the other hand, denied the allegations and confirmed that victims themselves had leveled allegations by writing complaints.
There is another one accused of this, Meher Malek, who has been charged with deprivation.
He has also approached the court to get charges against him.
HC lives the police from taking the action of coercion against him and from submitting a chargesheet against him until the court passes further orders, his advocate said, Hitesh Gupta.
