Dunwoody: An explosion shook a apartment building on the outskirts of Atlanta on Sunday, causing a three-story structure in part and leaving four people with a minor injury, the authorities said.
The cause of the explosion was unknown, but the local utility had received a call from residents about a strong gas smell shortly before the midday explosion, according to Dekalb County Fire and Rescue Deputy Fire Deputy Melvin Carter.
He said 90% of buildings had been dipped and officials were in the process of supporting the remaining complex so that the rescue could continue to look for anyone who might be trapped.
The Captain of the Fire Jaeson Daniels said two people were countless and may be in one of the three apartments that truly collapsed.
Rescuers have not been able to enter the apartment because of the instability of the overall structure.
But the WSB-TV reported, citing Dekalb fire officials, that the two men were finally found safe.
A rotating helicopter and drone above the structure when the local red cross began to comb residents to see who might need accommodation assistance.
The building partly collapsed and several other nearby were evacuated.
Residents were told that Monday was the earliest they could return to their homes.
Brandon Winfield, 28, who lives in a building next to the collapse, said he felt lucky that he avoided injury since he was driven by the site for years before the explosion.
Collapse reminded him of a terrible accident that happened when he was a teenager, deciding his spine marrow while participating in Motocross.
“I live.
I live,” he said.
“I dodge two bullets.” Chantel Jefferson, a 21-year-old Amazon driver, has parked his van directly outside the building and collected the package to take inside when he heard “big explosion” and trees and debris began to fall on his vehicle.
People come out of the building, scream and bleed of their wounds.
“I’m just a few inches from him.
I’ll go up,” he said.
“I’m glad I didn’t work there,” he added.
