4 Nigerians completed training at Sugar Institute

Kanpur: Four faculty members from the Nigeria Sugar Institute went for Nigeria after completing their one year ‘faculty development program’ at the National Sugar Institute, Kanpur.
The training program was carried out with the provisions of the MOU between the National Sugar Institute and the Nigerian Sugar Development Board.
The Nigeria Sugar Institute was established under the guidance of the National Police Institute, Kanpur to provide competent technical personnel for the Nigerian sugar industry.
During the first phase Oladipo Sulaiman Adewale, Ojo Kupoluyi Oluwatosin, eHikioya Michael Osajie and Bello Mujib conducted training.
Director, National Sugar Institute, Professor Narendra Mohan said that theoretical and training were given to the Nigerian faculty members in various fields of processing of sugar cane juice, energy and water conservation, generation of co-generation, design process and automation process.
For broader exposure, practical training is given to the experimental sugar factory of the Institute and at a commercial sugar factory, he said.
Nigerian Sugar Development Board has also invited the National Sugar Institute to audit their master’s plan for the expansion of the sugar industry to achieve self-sustainability at the end of 2022.
At present, Nigeria only produces around 3% of its needs and is very dependent on sugar imports by around 1.6 million metric ton.
