4 shot dead for land disputes in Punjab Gurdaspur

BATALA: Four people from one family allegedly shot dead when they irrigate their fields in Ballarwal Village in the Gurdaspur district on Sunday morning.
Those who were killed were identified as two siblings Mangal Singh, 70, Jasbir Singh, 35, Sukhwinder Singh, 40, and Babbaldeep Singh, 21.
Two people suffered an injury who first rushed to the government hospital from where they were referred to the Amritsar Hospital.
Their conditions are seriously reported.
Forbidden relationships and land disputes were reported as two possible reasons behind morning shooting.
However, senior police supervisor (SSP), Batala Police District, Rachpal Singh said that they were working on different theories.
The initial investigation also referred to the illegal relationship from a daughter who was allegedly accused of death, who might trigger the incident.
He said the police had completed several people.
Manjit Kaur, one of the deceased’s relatives, alleged that the family had land disputes with Soni and Jyoti, which increased after members of the Mangal Singh family went to irrigate the fields around 6am on Sundays.
Harman Singh, one of the people who was injured, alleged that the defendant indiscriminately opened fire on anyone who worked in the field.
SSP Rachpal Singh told the police registered a case at the Sri Hargobindpur police station and began an investigation.
