Gurugram: In run-up to Swachh Survekshan 2022, Corporate Officials of the City of Gurugram (MCG) and other government employees will soon establish a home composting unit to encourage people to reduce the volume of waste to the landfill location.
The compost unit of the house was established at the residence of the MCG Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja on the civil line on Friday.
“We have started with the MCG head home.
We have set targets to reach up to 40,000 households and have been in talks with NGOs and Rwas.
Some units will be given to residents who are free of charge,” said a senior MCG official.
According to an official from e-Swachh, a private waste management body that prepares home composting units, each unit consists of two trash cans with a total capacity of 10 liters that can be arranged in the balcony, roof or other outer area at the cost of Rs 2,000.
Someone needs to cut the kitchen waste or dry leaves into small pieces, mix with coco peat or sawdust in the trash and add bio-enzymes into it.
“Our team has explained the entire process to the MCG Commissioner and trains his staff on how to make compost using our kit, which includes home composter houses, coco peat and serum (bio-enzymes).
This turns wet waste into compost within 15 days.
No smelling and worm free, “said Gaurav Wahi, co-founder e-Swachh.
Meanwhile, the Head of MCG Ahuja appealed to residents to adopt home composting and play a role in making clean and garbage-free Turugram.
“Everyone must separate their waste.
With compost houses, wet waste can be converted into compost, which will definitely reduce the volume of waste which usually ends in a garbage dump,” he said.
He also directed 26 empure agents to ensure waste management was carried out correctly by the bulk waste generator.
