Mumbai: More senior citizens have taken booster shots in the state rather than health care workers and front lines.
Maharashtra has provided a total of 7.27 lakh prevention doses since January 10.
According to state data, 3.37 lakh (46%) preventive doses have been given to people over 60 years.
In comparison, a little more than 2.08 lakh (28.7%) doses have been received by health care workers and 1.81 lakh (25%) by frontline workers.
As expected, cities lead the chart when it comes to managing the prudential doses to the elderly.
Mumbai has provided a booster shots to 89,593 people over 60 years, Pune became 68,571 and Thane up to 40,748.
In some districts that are less developed, Gadchiroli and Hingoli for example, less than 1,000 senior citizens have taken the third dose.
Dr.
Sachin Desai, state immunization officer, said there was a better awareness and demand for amplifiers between larger centers.
Also, there are questions just because only those who have completed nine months since their second shot can take the prudential doses.
Intensivist Dr.
Rakesh Bhadade insisted that important workers had to take a booster shot without the second thought.
“There is little doubt that vaccination cover helps blunt the third wave impact becomes very large,” he added.
State officials said that many important workers infected in the third wave would not be able to take a cautious shot immediately.
The center has issued a guideline stating that infected people recently can take a vaccine shot after 90 days.
