Jaipur: From 3,471 cases of musicycosis reported during and after the second wave, 477 did not have a history of Covid, which contributed 14% of the total black mushroom cases reported in the last three months.
The doctor was surprised to say a detailed study of such cases would be needed to find out why this happened.
“Any condition that reduces immunity like all diabetes patients compromised immuno, cancer and uncontrolled, people who live with HIV allow access to pores in the body in the body to cause mucorikosis.
During Covid, the cases of Musormycosis increased sharply.
, “said Dr.
Sudhir Bhandari, the principal and controller, SMS Medical College.
The doctor has linked Sudden Spurt in the case of mukormycosis to improve the use of steroids in covid treatment, which causes uncontrolled diabetes and allows muctilicosis to occur.
However, in 477 cases, the Ministry of Health has not found Covid’s history.
It has confused the doctors and they are now trying to find out the reasons behind Spurt in a black mushroom case without Covid’s history.
“I have talked about the case of musicycosis without Covid history with my colleagues in Gujarat and other countries.
They also report about such cases.
We cannot draw conclusions, but we can say that all cases of musicycosis that have not shown covid history , it may have been infected at any time point during the second wave and remain without symptoms.
Because they are not aware of Covid infection because they have no symptoms, Covid raises their sugar levels that reduce their immunity.
Because Musormycosis is an opportunistic infection, it attacks patients like that, “Dr.
Tarun Ojha, head of the department, in a private hospital.
“Before the pandemic, we reported nearly 4-5 cases in a year, which was quite rare,” said Dr.
Ojha.
The doctor who conducted an operation at SMS Hospital also found a surprise surge in the case of mukormycosis without Covid history.
“In our ENT department, we usually witness 12-15 mucatorcosis cases before the pandemic, but cases have increased significantly.
Of course that patients like that without Covid history may have been infected but they do not complete their RT-PCR tests.
They recovered from Covid but got mukormycosis because their sugar levels rose uncontrolled.
We have seen uncontrolled diabetes are the main causes of mukormycosis, “said Dr.
Pawan Singhal, Professor (ENT), SMS Hospital.
Of the 3,471 cases of Musormycosis, 2,582 were in treatment, while 563 had been cured.
So far, 178 have died and 148 have left the hospital without medical advice.
