Coimbatore: Minister of Electricity V Senthil Balaji on Saturday said officials had identified 477 children, who lost both parents or parents to Covid-19, in the district.
While 161 of them have received cash assistance from the state government, the rest will be contacted in the coming days, he said.
The Minister has begun distributing cash assistance RS3.86 Lakh up to 126 children that day.
Cash will reach beneficiaries in a few days.
Children who lose both parents will get the RS 5 lakh soatium, which will be stored in the bank in their name, while those who lose one parent will get one-time assistance.

A total of 521 children were identified in the district for the state government assistance but only 447 were found to be eligible.
While 11 of them were piandemici orphans, the rest had lost one of their parents.
If parents have government jobs and are above the poverty line, children will not get help.
Some children from other districts have also been identified and details are shared with their respective districts.
