Guwahati: The Government Assam said 48 ship passengers who were immersed in Brahmaputra after colliding with other ships from Neematighat in Jorhat on Wednesday and reportedly lost have been tracked living in the last 12 hours.
However, the search and rescue operation still took place for two people who were reported missing – a doctor from Jorhat and others from Lakhimpur.
The definite number of people in the boat board is still unclear and the figure continues to change.
Informal initial estimates on Wednesday is that there are around 120 to 130 passengers.
The authorities then estimated that there might be at least 70 people on the ship, which was changed to 90 on Thursday morning and up to 92 nights.
Previously on Wednesday, NDRF and SDRF personnel, along with local residents, had saved 42 other passengers from the ship from Majuli.
One of them, a woman, then died at the hospital in Jorhat.
All 48, which was tracked and reportedly lived on Thursday, had managed to the banks of the river in various locatidat locations themselves and still not late until late at night.
This tragedy once again brought back to focus on these rural vessels, which the World Bank while approving RS 630-Crore ($ US 88 M) projects in Assam to improve passenger ferry infrastructure and services in 2019 have marked them as “insecure” .
.
Minister of Justice Minister Himanta Buswa Sarma, who visited the incident site, said he was surprised how even though there was a ban on a ban on a single engine plant plying, these ships were still active in service.
