New Delhi: The Delhi government provides Covid-Relief of RS 5,000 to 47,996 construction workers on Monday.
The deputy head of the Minister Manish Sisodia said, in a statement, Delhi building and other construction workers’ welfare council had been directed to withdraw the amount of assistance to workers whose application was approved between May 28 and May 18.
“This ex Gratia payment is for construction workers whose applications are approved between 28.05,2021 to 18.07.2021.
This relief comes as an additional benefit for the most difficult construction workers because of the Covid crisis in Delhi,” he said.
The Delhi government has distributed the amount of aid equal to 2.16,602 construction workers in April this year.
Sisodia, also the Minister of Manpower, urges all construction workers to register with the Workers’ Council to take advantage of the benefits of the government’s welfare scheme.
“The previous workers had to stand in long queues for hours to submit their application but now, the whole process has shifted online which helps workers quickly apply on the government website and do not miss their daily wages,” he said.
The AAP leader said last year, nearly 40,000 workers were given aid allowances in March.
“After taking over the labor department in November 2020, the inspection and drive of the mass registration was carried out by us at the Delhi Labor office,” he said.
“Based on the inspection and drive of this registration, we have brought a series of reforms in the Ministry of Manpower.
As a result of this, within eight months the number of construction workers registered with the construction council has increased to three lakh,” said Sisodia.
The Delhi government has started a 24×7 Helpline for construction workers, where they can provide missed calls on 011-41236600 and in 48 hours, their problems will be handled, he added.
