5.5-magnitude earthquake rattles southern Philippines

MANILA: A inland earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 struck Davao Occidental state from the southern Philippines Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) stated.

The magician said the overseas quake, which hit 10:02 am local time, struck a thickness of 113 kilometers, approximately 235 km north of Jose Abad Santos city on Mindanao island.

The tremor was felt in Kiamba city in neighboring Sarangani province.

The magician said that the quake, that had been in origin, could activate aftershocks without inducing harm.
