New Delhi: Even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to revoke 3 new agricultural laws, farmers’ leaders demanded legal guarantees for the minimum support price (MSP).
They also held a general meeting on Monday to demand MSP extension to all products and not just wheat and rice.
Thousands of farmers were involved in the protest movement since the last year, urging the center to roll back the law, fear of losing MSP and defeated by large private sector players.
Economists at the State Bank of India (SBI) have suggested 5 major agricultural reforms that can act as an enabler without even 3 bills.
The report said that MSP as a guarantee of price has always been a difficult problem.
At present, the government mainly buys rice and wheat with minimum support prices or guaranteed prices, but the benefits of safety nets are almost 6 percent of farmers.
The following are reforms that are considered important by SBI for farmers: * Guarantee warranty of the quantity of the MSP report states that instead of MSP as a guarantee of price that farmers demand, the center can produce a quantity warranty clause for a minimum period of 5 years.
The clause will make a mandatory procurement for the percentage of plant production (being bought) at least the same as the percentage of last year (with protection in extraordinary events such as drought, floods etc.).
* MSP conversion to auction floor in the second sixthe suggested by SBI economist is to convert MSP to the auction floor in the national agricultural market (six).
However, this will not fully resolve the problem because the current data shows that the average capital price in the Mandis e-Nam is lower than MSP in all Kharif commodities (except soyabean).
