Thane: Because heavy rainfall in the catch area of Bhatsa Dam in Thane District in Maharashtra, five reservoir gates opened on Saturday morning to spend water, an official said.
The gate opened around 10 in the morning, an irrigation department official from the Bhatsa Nagar office.
“The water level in the dam reaches 141.70 meters around 9am today.
Because the catchment area has received heavy rain, five gates opened,” he said.
Authorities in the downstream area, including Shahapur, Bhiwandi and Kalyan, have been warned to take precautions.
They were asked to instruct villagers who live along the banks of the river not to explore into the water, he added.
Bhatsa Dam is one of seven reservoirs that provide water to Mumbai.
