Ahmedabad: A total of five workers died when they entered the tank of the waste treatment plant (ETP) in a pharmaceutical company in Khatraj GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation) Gandhinagar on Saturday afternoon, police officers said.
The deceased was identified as Vinay Kumar, Shushil Gupta, Devendra Kumar, Kumar Anish and Rajan Kumar, all about 30 years old, said a police officer.
In Charge Police Inspector Santege Mg Jadyja said that the workers died in the ETP tank in the private Pharma Tuttsan limited in plot number 10 from Block Number 58 near the Olympics laminated in Khatraj.
“The incident took place around 1:30 a.m.
on Saturday when workers entered the ETP tank to repair the pipe,” said Jadeja.
He added, “First, two workers entered the tank and because they did not respond or returned for a few minutes, the other three went inside to check it out.
But they also died in the tank.” Jadyja said that it seemed that they died because of the shortness of breath caused Toxic gases in the tank.
Sources in the police said that no workers were wearing any gear when they were made to enter the ETP tank.
Fire personnel and staff staff company have provoked the workers and placed them in the blankets used to carry them with them.
Police Santege registered the current unintentional death case and further investigation was underway.
The contractor carrying workers to the place and company owner will be questioned in this case, a police officer said.
On August 26, three sanitation workers died after they entered the gutter in the Bopal Ahmedabad area.
Two dead workers died on April 5 after inhaling toxic gases when cleaning the septic tank in Vedach Village in Bharuch District Gujarat.
