New Delhi: Five people, including a woman, was arrested for allegedly running illegal call centers and deceived foreign nationals by posing as representatives of the technology support company, police said on Friday.
Owner – Pritpal Singh (35) together with his colleagues Mayak (26), Chandan Gupta (24), Subham Kumar (22), and Kinkini Das (35) are operating the call center from the third floor of a building south of Delhi Malviya Nagar, They said.
Based on tip-off, the police conducted a raid on Thursday and arrested the defendant targeting foreigners, especially from the US, with the pretext of giving them technical support, stating that their system was vulnerable to cyber attacks, police said.
Among employees, Subham and Chandan were junior callers while still a senior caller, police said, added them to work here for the past seven months and call customers using top-class technical software “X-Lite / Eye Beam” through the cloud server.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said, “The defendant approached the US-based customers using” X-Lite / Eye Beam “and deceived them with the pretext to give them technical support if they pay a fee of 100 to US 400 US dollars.” They induce customers to provide a number through various methods or payment wallets.
“They took the wrong advantage when they first sent a pop-up message or bug to the customer’s computer after getting their data from the cloud server and stating that their system has been attacked, and Then ask them to get technical support from them to eradicate pop-ups or bugs of their system, “he said.
The police claimed to have recovered 13 computers with two drives pens and two call center notebooks.
