5 from Europe, Saudi Covid’s positive test in Assam

Guwahati: Five passengers from Europe and Saudi Arabia were tested positive for Covid-19 in Assam in the last 24 hours.
A senior official of the State Health Department was confirmed by TOI that four of them reached the Silchar airport on December 6 (Monday), while one landed in Guwahati on Tuesday night.
Samples from the fifth sent to the genome sequencing to Kolkata to confirm the current variant as the spread of omicron has alarm bells throughout the country.
Although it does not show symptoms, travelers are hospitalized in the best health facilities available and are being monitored.
The traveler, who was positively tested in Silchar, came from Finland, while the other three came from Karimganj district in the Barak Valley.
They returned from Saudi Arabia and were in a house isolation when the RT-PCR report came on Tuesday.
The positive case of Silchar has been taken to the Medical College Silchar Hospital, while the other three have been sent to a government civil hospital in Karimganj.
“The RT-PCR report of four passengers was received by the Ministry of Health the following day.
We have also conducted three searches in Karimanj but fortunately the virus did not spread,” said the official.
“The five samples were being sent to the laboratory in Kolkata on Wednesday itself to confirm if Omicron was present in their sample,” officially added.

About 500 passengers from “high-risk” countries are scheduled to enter Assam through air route in December.
Although many have not entered the state, the Ministry of Health maintains constant obligations on their transit.
“The air suvidha portal provides information about international leaflets and certain circumstances they have achieved.
However, the time of entering at a particular airport remains uncertain.
This is a problem while tracing such passengers,” Indian official airport authorities said.
