Noida: Five people were arrested on Monday for allegedly running a call center in Nawada Village and cheated several people throughout the country by booking Bogus Hotel.
The defendant was suspected of developing software to steal data from Oyo Rooms, online travel aggregators, and deceive customers to pay money with favorable offers on booking confirmations, Balmiki police said – Nabbed following attacks on guest accommodation that pays from where they are suspected of operating the call center.
The police have also confiscated Rs 8 lakh from a different bank account in this case.
ADCP Noida Ranvijay Singh said that Ravi, the mastermind, had a BCA degree and had worked briefly as a team leader in the call center for OYO rooms.
“After one year, Ravi quit the job and started the Call Center with Rohit, who had worked with Oyo’s room.
Rohit not only provides IDs and passwords to access OYO room data but also bring three other accused.
Together, they developed The Czintrix software, which allows them to extract data from travel companies.
The defendant further links this data to ‘Oyo to manage the payment application link’ that allows them to read customer data, “Singh said.
This technology allows the defendant to get access to customer data, such as names and telephone numbers, as soon as they book a room on an online travel aggregator application.
“The men will use telephone numbers and call victims with the pretext of booking confirmation.
They introduce ourselves as customer service executives from travel companies and demand money to confirm bookings.
They will also offer discounts or upgrades of rooms at cheaper prices.
After customers receive the offer , Defendant with account details or other links for online transactions, “said Singh, added that at receiving money, men would only throw away SIM.
Only after reaching the hotels that the victims realized that they were cheated.
